Beans

Frozen limas do not need a pre-boil.

A quarter cup. More and it becomes chowder.

FAQ

No lima beans?

Then it is not succotash. Edamame is a different dish.

Bacon?

Cook two slices first and use the fat instead of part of the butter.

Cream?

Skip it for a leaner skillet. The butter still carries it.

Summer squash?

A diced zucchini in the last 5 minutes is a fair addition.
