This skinny margarita recipe is the lighter pour: blanco tequila, fresh lime, a splash of orange, and a little agave. No blue curaçao, no bottled mix. The blue margarita already on Flavors is a different drink. If you want a tart, lower-sugar margarita, stay here.

Skinny Margarita
- Total Time: 5 minutes
- Yield: 1 drink 1x
Description
Skinny margarita with blanco tequila, fresh lime, orange juice, and agave. From Olivia at Flavors.
Ingredients
One drink
- 2 ounces (60ml) blanco tequila
- 1 1/2 ounces (45ml) fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce (30ml) fresh orange juice
- 1/2 ounce (15ml) agave nectar, or to taste
- Ice
- Kosher salt and a lime wheel, for the glass
Pitcher (8 drinks)
- 2 cups (480ml) blanco tequila
- 1 1/2 cups (360ml) fresh lime juice
- 1 cup (240ml) fresh orange juice
- 1/2 cup (120ml) agave nectar
Instructions
- Salt the rim of a rocks glass if you want it: rub a lime wedge on the rim and dip in kosher salt. Fill the glass with ice.
- Add tequila, lime, orange, and agave to a shaker with ice. Shake 12 to 15 seconds until the shaker is very cold.
- Strain over the fresh ice. Taste: if it is sharp, add a bar spoon of agave; if it is flat, add a squeeze of lime.
- Garnish with a lime wheel. For a pitcher, stir the four liquids and keep cold. Shake or stir each serving over ice — do not add ice to the jug.
Notes
Fresh lime is the drink. Bottled lime makes it taste like mix. Silver tequila stays clean; reposado is a different flavor. The blue margarita is the curaçao version, not a substitute for this ratio.

Skinny, not blue
Blue margarita on this site is a curaçao cocktail. This page is lime, orange, and agave. Do not merge them.
Substitutions
A splash of orange liqueur makes it less skinny. Sparkling water on top stretches it. Tajín on the rim instead of salt is optional.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not use margarita mix. Do not skip shaking — dilution is part of the drink. Do not add ice to a pitcher or you get a watery last glass.
Storage
The mixed base keeps refrigerated 1 day. Shake with ice when you pour. Do not freeze.
Nutrition (estimated)
About 180 calories per drink with 1/2 ounce agave. Estimate only, not a lab test.
FAQ
What makes a margarita skinny?
Fresh juice and a small amount of agave instead of triple sec plus sweet-and-sour mix.
Can I use lemon instead of lime?
It will taste like a different sour. Keep lime for this page.
Is this the same as the blue margarita?
No. Blue uses curaçao. This is the clear, lime-forward pour.
Can I batch it for a party?
Yes. Mix the liquids, chill, and shake each glass with ice.
