This sangria recipe is red wine steeped with chopped fruit, brandy, and a little orange juice. It is not a wine spritzer poured and drunk at once.

Description

Sangria. From Olivia.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 bottle (750ml) dry red wine
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 apple, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 ounces (60ml) brandy
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) orange juice
  • 1 cup (240ml) cold club soda

Instructions

  1. Stir wine, fruit, sugar, brandy, and orange juice in a pitcher.
  2. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  3. Add the club soda just before you pour.

Notes

Add the soda at the end. It goes flat if it sits in the pitcher overnight.

Wine

A dry red you would drink. Sweet wine plus sugar is too much.

Fruit

Orange and apple. They hold up. Berries fall apart.

Chill

Two hours is the minimum. Overnight is better.

Soda

Club soda, not lemon-lime soda, unless you want it sweeter.

Nutrition (estimated)

About 320 calories per serving. Estimate only, not a lab test.

FAQ

White wine?

That is a different pitcher. This one is red.

No brandy?

Leave it out. The wine still carries it.

Storage

Without soda, 2 days in the fridge. Fruit gets soft after that.

Sugar

Start with 2 tablespoons. Taste before you add more.
